EPICURE’s HPC support featured at ASHPC26 in Austria

At the Austrian–Slovenian High-Performance Computing Meeting 2026 (ASHPC26), EPICURE HPC support was highlighted during a specialised session, conducted by Darin Lah and Samo Miklavc. The researchers from the Institute of Information Science (IZUM) shared how EPICURE helps researchers overcome technical challenges and make more effective use of Europe’s supercomputing infrastructure.

Through several real-world case studies supported through EPICURE, the team demonstrated how advanced HPC application support enables researchers to scale complex scientific workflows on EuroHPC systems. These included projects in digital pathology, fusion plasma simulation, electromagnetic modelling and proprietary scientific software.

The examples demonstrated how EPICURE provides advanced technical assistance beyond basic system access, including software installation, code optimisation, performance profiling and scalability testing. This specialised support enables researchers to improve application performance and maximise the value of their compute allocations on systems such as Slovenia’s HPC Vega.

During the event, the team, which included researchers from IZUM and the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI), also conducted a poster session, engaging directly with participants and explaining EPICURE’s HPC support levels. The project’s participation at ASHPC26 is a great opportunity to promote EPICURE and emphasise its value to the Austrian and Slovenian HPC community.

The ASHPC convenes annually, alternating between the two countries, to bring together researchers, engineers, and infrastructure builders to discuss HPC. The 2026 edition was held in Vienna from April 8 to 10 and addressed the modern challenges of supercomputing.
